India Census-2011 carried out in two phases for NPR and MNIC

Census-2011 carried out in two phases, house listing and housing census from April 26 to June 10 and population enumeration from February 9 to 28 next year. The database would help proper planning of Central and State annual plans, Five Year Plans, formulation of welfare schemes, effective governance and allocation of funds for SCs and STs. Stating that data collection done through Intelligent Character Recognition Technology (ICRT) sheets, 35 details like condition of the house, purpose to which enumerated house was being put, ownership, social status of family head, normally residing members in household, availability of facilities like drinking water, electricity, sanitation, availing of banking services and assets like vehicles, electronic home appliances including computer or lap-top will be collected.

In second phase, 14 details like name, sex, educational qualifications, residential status, date of birth, place of birth, marital status, occupation, nationality, present and permanent address and others of every person in the household would be collected to prepare National Population Register (NPR). The database created would be utilised for Multipurpose National Identity Card (MNIC) project. Photographing people and recording their biometry would be taken up in the later stage.
